Smoking Delhi!!

Delhi, Nations capital, famous for its “Dilli ki Chaat”, “Sarojini Nagar”, “Lotus Temple” is now famous for a very substandard thing which is that” Delhi is smoking”. By smoking here it refers to the poor air quality that Delhi has gained in the past years. It has surpassed all the expectations and now has not only become a threat to the nation but also the the world.

The pollution in Delhi does not only refer to air but also includes noise, water, domestic waste, industrial waste, pollutants from vehicle, solid waste, hospital waste, etc.

Population in Delhi is growing rapidly which affects the pollution in a drastic way. Also the industries which contribute to the pollution are growing, studies show that only 20% of the industries are on the industrial units whereas the remaining are built on commercial or industrial areas. It is also said that vehicles on the road of Delhi are more than that o 3 metropolitan cities Mumbai, Kolkata and chennai. Another reason is the cutting of crops and then burning of land by the neighboring territories.

The Air Quality Index of Delhi is 121 which is described as poor and is unhealthy for sensitive groups. In 2014, Delhi reached PM 2.5 pollution levels, which is the highest in the world.

To curb the pollution level in delhi certain measures are being taken by the government which include banning of vehicles plying on road which are more than 15 years old and run on conventional fuels like CNG, diesel, etc. Positioning dustbins around each and every corner of the city is being done and the waste is being transformed to compost. The government has also banned the use of plastic bag .

It is the duty of every citizen to follow the rules that are laid by the government in order to make Delhi a clean and green place. At last i want to say that charity begins at home if every citizen will take a step towards the betterment then the result will always be in our favor.
